Margrethe Aanestad (b. Stavanger, 1974), is a visual artist based in Stavanger and Brooklyn, New York. Aanestad is co-founder/co-owner of Elefant, and co-founder and co-curator of the artist-run space Prosjektrom Normanns.
Solo exhibitions include: Torrance Shipman Gallery, New York (2015); Dimensions Variable, Miami (2015); Open Source Gallery, New York (2013). Selected group and duo exhibitions: Dimensions Variable, Miami (2016/17), Tub gallery, Miami (2015); Another Space, Copenhagen (2014); Interno4, Bologna (2013); Galería Des Pacio de la Cruz, San Jose, Costa Rica (2013); ISCP, New York (2012); The 124. Annual National Art Exhibition in Norway, Kunstnernes Hus, Oslo (2011). Future projects include Kunsthall Stavanger, Norway (2018), Abingdon Studios, Blackpool, UK, (2018) and Interface Gallery, Oakland, San Francisco) (2019).
Collections include University in Stavanger, Stavanger Municipality, British Petroleum, Norway.
Since 2001, Aanestad has worked independently to initiate, produce, and curate many projects on the art scene in Stavanger, where she currently is also guest teacher at Rogaland Art College, and serves on the Advisory Board of Kunsthall Stavanger.
Aanestad studied fine arts at the Rogaland Art College and graduated in 2000 with a BA from the University of Stavanger, including Art History and Aesthetic Philosophy.
